The list of Kajáns in Felvidék is far from complete, its starting point is our family. But during the tracing of genealogy we have met more Kajáns than expected. Data found at random are just not enough to picture a more complete family history, but their review is justified.

An exception is made just with the branch our own family moved into Hungary, as it may be taken complete.

This branch arrived from Alsó-Kubin, and its origin could be traced back to Bezinig,

We have found several Kajáns in Árvaváralja and Krasznahorka as well.
Their descendants are still living there, as found in the telephone directory.

County TRENCSÉN/TREČÍN

Ennoblement

With the assistance of Erzsébet Lucrecia Szunyogh from Budatin in the circle of Csadcza the following three villages were founded in 1641:  Fenyvesszoros/Svrčinovec, Cserne/Čierne and Sziklaszoros/Skalité. Among the first 28 dwellers of Cserne we find a Michael Kajan. He is the first among the Kajans of Upper Hungary known by us.

There had been a noble Kaján family of
county Trencsén. The armoried patent of nobility had been received by Mihály Kaián and his spouse Anna Peörgeő, and also by his brothers János and György from King Lipót I (made out in Vienna on 24 August 1669), that had been also announced in this year. The descendants lived in the XVIIIth century in Új-gyalla, Keszegfalva,  Érdekújvár,  Ó-Gyalla and Verebély of the county Komárom. One of their ancestries had already lived in Pest in the mid of the XIXth century. We may also mention for example Sándor József, who has been a reputed lawyer and burgess in the capital.

We know that their descendants are living in Budapest, but we have no contact with them.

According to the national census of the year 1715 Kajans were living in the places of the county listed below:

Hanovy, Hámri, Hámoros, Trencsén, Hámre, SK, Tornyos része:  Andreás
Halacs, Halács, Halács, Trencsén, Haláčovce, SK:
id.Thomas, Andreás,  Michael.

Many Kajan ancestries were living at the end of the century XIX in the neighbouring settlement of Kisvendég and Pochaba in the county Nyitra.

Kajans were registered first as of 1834 in Kisvendég. It is unknown where did they come from.

From the around 500 people found we could not succeed in introducing big family branches, as the family relations of the ones arrived here are not known yet. Currently 22 bigger, 10 smaller and 26 fragmented families could be been complied.

We only know the descendants of just one bigger ancetry, who have got to Trebon in Bohemia.

Finding further connections requires yet some exploration.

         Udvarnok

         Kürt/Strekov:
János

In the souht part of the county Komárom the settlements of the centuries XI and XII were ruined. Kajans have got into the area in larger number during the re-settlement of the villages, to the not far-away villages like:  Érsekújvár, Keszegfalva, Imély, Ó-gyalla, Szentpéter, Új-gyalla, Kürt. Coming from this fact cross-marriages can be found amoung the villages, and even people from different Kajan branches have also got married with eah other.

In the national census in the year 1715  a certain
Andreas Kajan is found in Új-gyalla of this county.

Around 1690 and 1704 Csúzys have started to settle residents from the Hungarian-Czech borderland in Új-gyalla. Between 1712 and 1740 settlers arrived from along the River Vag

The residents of Új-gyalla were registered as of the year 1719 under Szentpéter. The Kajans living here were all catholics and ploughmen.

The 583 Kajan family members registered in the church register under Szentpéter and Új-gyalla form the following family ancestries, namely two big, three middle-sized and six fragment branches.

A small family branch also lived in Szentpéter,
Joannes ( around 1690 to 1740) and his family.

Andreás I. (about 1670 to 1769) was the first Kajan in the village Új-gyalla. It is unknown from where he has come from. In his markable long life, as of 1722, he got 10 children from four wifes. 161 members if his branch is known and can be traced to nowadays. The exploration is made up to 1905 in full.

Five Kajans born between the years 1690 and 1720 and their families lived also in the village:
Adamus (about 1692 -1772), Michaelis (about 1702 -) Joannes I, (about 1703 -) Andreas II. (1709 kk.-1777), Stephanus I. (1720 kk.-1806). There is no evidence, it can just be presumed, that they were also the children of András.

From their branches just one, Stephanus with 165 members can be traced up till today.

As of the 70s in the century XVIII yet another four Kajan families have appeared in the settlement. But we failed to find out their place of origin. Many of them died not here, so it may be presumed, they have moved to somewhere else.

These branches are:
Branch
Andreas II. (about 1756 -  ). 6 family members are known. After the birth of his son Emericus in 1782, no more trace of theirs is found in the village.

Branch
Georgius (about 1756 -).  52 members are known. The family may be descended till the end of the century XIX, but their last generation has also died out with many children’s death.

Branch
Stephanus II. (1772 kk. -). 22 of its members are known. At the end of the century XIX there was no member of the family handing down the family name.

Branch
Joannes II. (1779 kk.-). 81 of its members are known. At the end of the century XIX Vilmos (1882-), András (1895-), János (1902-) and Gáspár (1893-) handed over the family name.

By marriages other Kajan families, not yet explored, have moved from Kurtakszi and Bátorkeszi to Új-gyalla.

As of the mid of the century XVIII 32 members of the ennobled Kajan family lived in Új-gyalla.

Although as of 1714 church registers were maintained in Kürth, the birth of the first Kajan child was registered in 1759. As of that time up to 1895 the Kajan families we have got acquainted form two branches.

Georgius I. (about 1720  -), we know 258 members of his big line. By the end of the century just Flórián (1895-) handed over the family name in the village. From the previous generations many have died not here, so most probably they moved to somewhere else.

One
Michael has married to Új-gyalla and have reproduced there a big branch, of which 57 members are known. There was a girl, who married her husband from Új-gyalla. Members has also got to Szentpéter.

 Georgius II.
(1795 kk.-1858), we know 37 members of this smaller branch. By the end of the century no member, that can hand over the family name, lived any more in the village. From the previous generations many may have left  the village, as they did not die there.

In Keszegfalva lived the family of the noble branches Franciscus and Joannas and some Kajan churls as well.

IIn Imély Kajan families lived from 1792 - presumable getting here by settlement. This branch is not processed yet.
