According to the phone directory there are Kaján families coming from the Upper Hungary (Felvidék) region who are living in Hungary but we deal only with the descendants of the Orosháza family in these pages.

It was in 1808 that the first known Kaján
in Hungary, member of our family came to Orosháza which was founded in 1744.
He was András Kaján, a wandering bootmaker who at the age of 21, in 1808, married Julianna Harsányi, a 17-year old girl who had a twin sister. It is sure therefore that he did not arrive with the Zombai-s who founded the town. According to the móring book he was the son of  András Kaján from Árva county (now Orava). This family legend has proved true since then.

The family of Orosháza was very big in the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century. By the 21th century it had a lot of branches and female members.

In the 19th century, the family members were
furriers and boot makers. At the beginning of the 20th century there were commercial people and also skilful fitters who learnt their profession in Vienna. A part of them moved from Orosháza to Békéscsaba or to Legénd in Nógrád county.

During the 20th century they became white collars (teachers, professors,  health-care workers, lawyers, economists, engineers, entrepreneurs, computer programmers, famous alpinists, etc.) and a lot of them have university degrees.

Some of them are known country-wide :

Only
László and György carry on the Kaján family name! They are the future hopes. Their responsibility to keep this family branch is enormous.

Most of the
living members shown in the family tree live in Budapest and its surroundings but there are some living in Szentendre, Dunakeszi, Csepel, Nyíregyháza, Veszprém as well as in Balatonkenese.
There is a Canadian descendant and a girl married in America.

Their family tree is almost complete.

During the two centuries,
twins were born three times in the family.

For details on each family member, see the Ancestor tree III., which shows names and places in alphabetical order.
